Kindness
Gavin’s warm smile and easy-going manner brought comfort to those around him. Gavin’s Hugs will perpetuate this kindness by supporting families in need, particularly those who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
Friendship
In the weeks since losing Gavin, our family has seen an amazing outpouring of love and charity from friends. They have sent gift cards, meals, and plenty of delicious treats. They have offered help with tasks and household chores. We will seek to replicate this incredible support that has made these impossible days a little easier
The primary vision behind Gavin’s Hugs is to honor Gavin’s legacy with acts of charity and kindness, and we also hope the site will become a resource for families and communities who are grieving the loss of a family member or friend. Our family has been blessed to receive tremendous support from our extended family, our amazing friends, from our children’s schools and from the central Florida community in general. Gavin’s Hugs will be an opportunity to give back in a similar way. Some ideas include:
Science
Gavin was extremely bright. While many things came easy to him, he was particularly adept with math, science and computers. He did things with his electronic devices that still baffle us. He had just completed a year of computer coding training. Gavin loved rollercoasters and theme parks. He cared about the environment. We will seek opportunities to support less fortunate organizations or communities who show an interest in science, computers and engineering.
Inclusion
Gavin was instinctively inclusive and supported the underrepresented individuals. He showed kindness where others didn’t. He loved a good underdog story. Gavin’s Hugs will perpetuate this spirit of generosity by supporting those in need, particularly those affected by personal tragedy.
